Volunteers needed for UNH Panel Discussion

The Younger Members will be holding a panel discussion for the UNH Student Section in March 2012.  We are looking for approximately five volunteers, preferably ASCE Younger Members (35 or younger), to participate in the panel to field questions from the students about life after college, career decisions, the job search process, etc.
This is a great opportunity to get involved with the Younger Members and show your support for the ASCE NH Student Section at UNH.
Please contact Logan Johnson at Logan_Johnson@Golder.com if you are interested.

New Horizons Soup Kitchen, Manchester NH

Yesterday, the Younger Members helped pull together Holiday Food Packages at the New Horizons Food Pantry in Manchester, NH.  The packages included holiday foods (potatoes, stuffing, gravy, etc.) and warm socks, hats, scarves or mittens.  All the items were donated to the soup kitchen from a variety of places.
Special thanks to Paul Armano and Katie Carney for pulling this all together and creating a very successful volunteering event for the ASCE Younger Members and for all the people who participated in the event.

Please visit the New Horizons website to find ways that you can contribute.

What's Going On and What's Coming Up

Hey guys,

Sorry for not posting anything for a while, we have been SOOOO very busy recently so i thought i would just send a quick update and let you know what we have been up to.

January 14-16 - ERYMC - The whole weekend was awesome. There was a whole bunch of ASCE-NH attendees and UNH even had quite the crew there. Paul Armano will up posting a little synopsis of the weekend, soon i hope. so look forward to that coming out.

January 27 - YM Lunch - It was very successful at SEA-Klienfelder! We are planning on having our next lunch together on Feb 24th at PB in Manchester, hope to see you all there. I am probably going to try to get Chris Robert to write something up about how he thinks it went.

Feb 8th - Happy Hour Canceled -We totally duffed the happy hour. but that means that the next one will be that much better, hope to see you in march!

Feb 10 - Student/YM Panel Discussion -UNH hosted the YMs in a Pannel Discussion. the panel consisted of Jason Ayotte, Britt Audet, Marisa DiBiaso, Chris Robert, and myself (Logan Johnson). The whole event went amazingly. It was great to answer the students questions about "real life" and what its like to be a "grown up" and the choices that we have made that have gotten us to where we are.  I am hoping that this can be a yearly event as it seems all of the students got something out of it.

Feb 17 - E-week, Engineers Banquet and Educational Session - This event was amazing, there was over 200 people in attendance including students (college and high school!). It is put on by NHSPE but it a joint engineering event that brings together organizations such as IEEE, ASCE, and ACEC.  Our very own (past-president) Jason Ayotte won Young Engineer of the Year!  From the YM group, congratulations to Jason on his achievements!  There was also a great key-note speaker, Mr. John Clayton, a Union Leader columnist, and even John Lynch, the NH Governor was in attendance.  It was a great night that celebrated all of the achievements that Engineers have made over the year.

We have even more events to look forward to in the coming weeks, some of those include:
  • February 22 - Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico, 7:00 pm, Concord, NH
  • February 24 - YM Lucnch at PB, 12:00, Manchester
  • March 3 - LRFD for Geotechnical Engineering, Micropile Foundations, 11:30 – 1:00, Concord, NH
  • March 10 - YM Happy Hour
  • June 10 - Golf Outing, Beaver Meadow Golf Course, Concord, NH
I will try to not let it go so long between posts.  Hope to see you all at our next event!
